L'Ami Jean sur Paris

It’s a nice, cozy, antique restaurant. Always crowded. Very loud atmosphere, but in a good way. Small tables, almost communal. Service is good, professional some of the waiters do speak English. The master chef is fun and always yelling and screaming, probably to make an ambience. I was surprised that all the customers were English speaking, it must be featured in a travel book, I know that it was recommended that the New York Times four years ago. Food is great and generous for French restaurant. We were really full. We have several items and they’re all great, including the asparagus with octopus, the amazing cod (bacalao or morue) and braised beef and duck breast. The smells are impressive. The food is full of flavor. They use a lot of herbs mainly oregano. The wine list is limited, but most likely reflective of the origins of the restaurant. We had a dessert and it was great; the basque almond tarte. David, next to us had the rice dessert and it also looked huge and tasty. The restaurant is expensive, all appetizers are around the €20 and all main courses are around 40 and above. We saw some people order the menu degustation and it was very generous.

Food was good (but not exceptional) and the service was inconsistent with some front of house staff seeming either distracted or frankly disinterested

This review is long overdue, but I have to leave a review because l’ami jean treated us so, so well during our first time there. The food was incredible, and just delicious and beautifully plated. The owner was so wonderful to us, and the staff so lovely! We arrived 7pm sharp and got seated immediately. The atmosphere was cozy, which was exactly what was needed after a long 11 hour flight. I would absolutely come back here again with more friends :)

Excellent food, really impressive cuisinne

Absolutely excellent food. Get the rice pudding, it's mind blowing. The bustle of service creates atmosphere and the exceptional food that is surprisingly fine dining in it's approach compared to the look and feel.

Excellent brasserie. Food was delicious and authentic. Service very good. One wonders how they manage, the place is crowded and circulation is tight. They are just very well trained and organized.

Excellent beef confit, chicken, rice pudding, calamari...the atmosphere was energizing. At the time not rushed. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly while BUSY, BUSY, not an easy task. Worth every cent.

Wow! This was a great find - we had saved this for our trip to Paris as the restaurant was featured on an episode of "I'll have what Phil's having". We came in for lunch (with no reservation) and the lovely manager, Amandene, made us feel right at home. She spoke English fluently, recommended all the best dishes to try, and continuously checked in on us - all of the employees were incredibly helpful & friendly! And they all spoke English to make up for our broken attempts at French :) We had: - soup of the day (Parmesan cream) - scallops - fish of the day (cod) - mashed potatoes (the most incredibly creamy) - rice pudding dessert (highly recommend!) - coffee Everything was wonderful, the restaurant was charming, and it was fun to watch the chef in the kitchen ensure every person in the restaurant was well looked after. Can't recommend enough!

Nothing to say about the quality of the cuisine: excellent. Let the chef yell because it's his personality and he wants to put on a show...why not, it's funny. But not in the room!!!!! It's unbearable, we can't even talk face to face and we have to go to the hearing care professional on the way out: a real shame, it ruins the experience.

Small and very cozy restaurant. The food is delicious and of high quality, especially the terrine. The chef very friendly. Local very well located near Invalides.
