The only fortified city left to us to see by Louis XIV. A gem of medieval architecture, even if it was revisited by Violet Le Duc.👍

Visiting the City (Carcassonne Castle) is an essential stopover in Aude. How to describe a listed fortress with its very well preserved fortifications, its small medieval streets, its cathedral defended by terrifying gargoyles? Some great gastronomic opportunities. Finally, extra-mural car parks allow you to park your bike and face the esplanade in front of the entrance. A must. 😜😎🏈

A beautiful and interesting fortified city from the middle ages. Restaurants, cafes, trinket shops, museums and a restored castle to explore. Stone walls, cobbled streets, ancient cathedral, parapets, ramparts watchtowers. High on a hilltop overlooking the town below in the green French countryside with the Pyrenees mountains in the distance.

Very interesting and obviously unmissable. The citadel is very well preserved. The castle is divine. But don't spend your money at the Inquisition Museum. The Torture Museum is interesting, but not unmissable...

30/03/2024: Paid a return visit to our favourite restaurant in Carcassonne. We have been coming here for many years and have appreciated the freshness and originality of the menu as well as the excellent service. The service is still excellent but alas something has changed with the kitchen. There is nothing to distinguish from other restaurant menus any longer. My husband enjoyed his main course (sauté beef) but none of the other dishes were noteworthy. The decor inside has also changed and the lovely concept store where you could spy things to buy while eating seems to have gone. Such a great pity!

05/04/2024: Excellent cuisine, homemade dishes, dedicated staff and desserts to die for!
04/04/2024: Place located in the new city (on the outskirts of the old town) that offers a well-priced menu with 4 starter courses, a main course and dessert. We have eaten well and calmly. The place is not very big and the atmosphere is close and familiar. Alright!!
